Getting bumped up to first / business class
Do you think that ground staff from whatever-airlines will bump you up to first class or that family of five when their flight is overbooked?
For as long as I live (which is not long mind you), I have been bummed up twice just because I was travelling alone. Once with Southern China Airlines (economy to premium economy) and Etihad Airways (economy to business class). Thank you for the amazing flying experience !
strength and independence
You're more independent and stronger than you think.
Really. Don't believe me? Think of the number of times you did something when it seems impossble when you first pick it up.
Eating alone. Gave a speech / presentation. Spoke to a stranger.
The idea of going out of your comfort zone is scary, I get it. I feel that too but truth is, when push comes to shove, you CAN do it!
Do you think I could survive a 52 hour trip from KK to Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin? Taking the 4 connecting flights, bus then taxi, not knowing anybody and I dont even have a US number, not to mention that there was a mistake in my itinerary.
So yes, don't restrict yourself thinking you can't do certain things when you haven't even try it out.
control and responsibility
You are in control of your own time, and hence your timing is your own responsibility.
Late for something? It's on you.
Didn't do your chores? It's on you.
No one is there to play the blame game with you.
Yes, you've read that right. You discover who you are.
Who you are when no one is watching.
Who you are when you're in a place where no one knows you.
Who you are when there is no expectation place on you.
Who you are when you're not confine to your culture and tradition. How strong are you in your beliefs and morals.
Oh well, that escalated quickly.
On the fun side, you can always try out a new persona. Tired of being boring Mary? May be you want to try being outgoing. Or you've always been trying to get in-touch with your introvert self.
Travelling alone allows you to do that.
So yes, I know at first travelling alone sounds scary. But really, when you're on that journey you'll wonder why you don't do this sooner until... you need to go to the bathroom and there's no one to look after your stuff.
Also, travelling alone allows you to meet more people. You will never be caught in the middle of "hanging out with your new friends" and "chilling with the old gang".
If above are not good enough reasons, may be this will help ;)
