Writing this post because it feels like a follow up post from the last post and also a little #notetoself so that I am reminded of these little things I can do to maintain or increase productivity level. Yes, I do have a habit of reading my blogposts from time to time.
Demetri here is a wise man. And the couch's best friend, the bed is also the enemy of productivity.
1. Disabling notifications
Did you know that it takes an average of 23 minutes to get re-focused after every distraction? This is a study done by Gloria Mark, who studies digital distraction at the University of California, Irvine. Feel free to check out here studies here.
And what is more distracting than our social media and text messages in today's world? Which is exactly the reason why you need to disable all those notifications from Instagram and Whatsapp to whatever random apps you have that has notifications enabled. This includes working on your computer and not allowing web Whatsapp to be open on a tab.
Else put your phone in another room while you're working.
If you are still unable to because people contact you constantly and you absolutely cannot part with your phone, then may be you will need to wake up slightly earlier than the world and work at the time where they wouldn't reply messages.
Point is, get rid of the distraction. If there's a will, there's a way.
2. Changing the wallpaper on your phone
There's a few ways you can do it, you can either pick a quote that resonates with you and reminds you of your goals and dreams.
A photo of your family because study shows that when you are more motivated if you're working towards a goal bigger than yourself. And if you really have no one to work for, then a photo of yourself preferably when you're a toddler because we all have dreams when we were young and you want to be someone the younger you look up to, so be that person.
A picture of your spirit animal, an animal that reminds you of you are, may be a lion if the journey you're on resonates with that, or a butterfly if you're going through tough times and you know at the end of this tough time, you'll emerge stronger and more beautiful.
I can't tell you how many times I've put down my phone after looking at my wallpaper. It's crazy how unconscious I was just checking on my phone every few minutes, especially after disabling notifications. And this really helped me out big time.
3. Listening to podcast
This literally shifted my feelings about taking the public transport to work.
I had 15 stops from my place to work which is about 45mins, and the first few weeks I literally feel like I'm wasting my time commuting to and fro work and this feeling manifested to the point where I get to work pissy and not in the mood for work.
The podcast I listen to mainly is call The Mindset Mentor by Rob Dial Jr. I've attached the spotify link to it and every episode is like 10 to 15mins, real easy to listen to. So instead of getting to work moody, I'm in a great mood. So that really helps with getting the day started on the right foot.
4. Screentime control / Grayscale
Are you aware that you are able to turn your phone to Black and White?

And for Android specifically Huawei user, this is for you. Because I'm a Huawei user so you're welcome.
When your screen is in black and white you automatically lose all interest of it. But there's an alternative if you don't want to be too extreme. You can either SCREENTIME your phone, meaning after certain time, it will close off all/selected applications and you have to manually unlock it or it will only turn black and white after certain hours.
5. Keeping to-do list short
Who's like me always trying to make a to-do list longer than the Great Wall of China? Turns out it's counter-productive.
The list will scare you before you get started and you go into procrastination mode. So what I've been doing recently is plan what to do the next day and the MOST I have is 3 things on my list. Done that, pats myself and then celebrate !
6. Celebrate wins
If it was up to me, there will be a celebration going on EVERYDAY.
Always be proud of things that you have done, even if it seems unimportant. Like did your exercise even though it's only 10mins. Crossed off something on your to-do list.

And with that, a sense of achievement and wanting to do better for tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow. If I improve 1% each day, by 10 days I'll improve 10%. okay so it doesn't work like that, but still improvement is something to celebrate.
7. Get someone onboard with you
Just like everything else, it's always easier if you have a partner-in-crime. Chances of things happening is always higher when there is an accountability partner because you are not only responsible for yourself.
May be set a time to work or cross off the to-dos together.
So I guess that now MCO has been extended to another 14 days (ending on 28th April I guess now we can put these little tips and tricks into practice and see if it really does improves productivity.
